Uses

Let's forget about that totally AI generated image and focus on why I published this page. Now and then I get asked about some piece of hardware or software I use, so I thought it would be a good idea to have a page that lists all the things I use on a daily basis.

I'm pretty simple, and I don't use a lot of fancy stuff, but I'm also a bit of a nerd, so I do have some interesting things in my setup. This page is a work in progress, and I'll update it as I change my setup or discover new tools that I find useful.

General Hardware

  • Apple MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro - This is my main computer. I use it for everything from coding to video editing. It's a bit old now, but it still works great for me, and if I have to replace it, I will probably get a newer model of the same thing.
  • Dell XPS 13 - This is my linux laptop, it's super old now, but it's linux, so it still works great. I don't use it much anymore, but I keep it to try out new linux distros, and nerd out on it.
  • Kinesis Advantage360 Keyboard - This is my main keyboard. It's an ergonomic keyboard that I love. It's a bit expensive, but it's worth it for the comfort and productivity boost. I really miss it when I have to use a regular keyboard.
  • Logitech MX Master 3S Mouse - This is my main mouse. It's a bit expensive, but it's worth it for the comfort and productivity boost. I love the side buttons and the scroll wheel, and I use it for everything from coding to video editing.

Development Tools

I'm a bit particular when it comes to development tools, and though I like to keep things simple and unchanged, I have a few tools that I use on a daily basis.

If you want to know more about my development setup, you can check out my dotfiles on GitHub, where I keep all my configuration files and scripts.

  • NeoVim - This is my main editor. I use it for everything, from writing code to writing this same page. I know it's not for everyone, but I love it. It's fast, lightweight, and highly customizable. I use a lot of plugins to enhance my workflow.
  • Any terminal + TMUX. I use TMUX as my terminal multiplexer, no other reason than I used it for a long time.

That's it! I live in the terminal, and I don't use any fancy IDEs or GUI tools. I like to keep things simple and fast, though you'll see me streaming live coding trying out new tools and workflows, but those are not part of my day to day routine.

Productivity Tools

  • Aerospace - i3 window manager for macOS. If you use CMD+Tab to switch between windows, this is a must have. It allows you to use the same keybindings as i3 on macOS, and it works great. It's not as fast, but it's built into my muscle memory now, so I don't need to even think or look at the screen to switch from editor to browser or slack.
  • Apple Notes - I know, I know... walled garden, but it's simple, fast, and gets the job done. I tried obsidian and other note-taking apps, but keep coming back to Apple Notes, it's my way not to go down the rabbit hole of finding the perfect system.
  • Things - This is my task manager. Old school (seeing the pattern here?) but it works for me. I like the simplicity and the focus on getting things done. I don't need a lot of features, just a simple way to keep track of my tasks. Also, no subsriptions.
  • ChatGPT - I use ChatGPT for brainstorming ideas, asking general questions, learning new things, and sure, sometimes for coding help.

Production

  • Ecamm Live - This is my main streaming software. I use it instead of OBS just because. Honestly, it's just one less thing to worry about, it just works.
  • Stream Deck - I use it to control my streaming software, switch scenes, and trigger actions. It's a bit of a luxury, but it makes my life easier when I'm streaming.
  • Blue Jeti X - This is my main microphone. It's ok.
  • Sony ZV-E10 M2 - This is my main camera. It's mid range, maybe overkill for my needs, but I like the quality and the flexibility it gives me. I use it for streaming and recording videos.
  • Sigma 16mm f1.4 - This is my main lens. It's a great lens for streaming and recording videos, and it gives me a nice depth of field in close range.
